Address Any Needed Repair Of Your Heater In Lansdale Pa

Now that winter is over and the cold weather has receded for more mild and temperatures, while you may not want to consider this, now is the time consider your heater. If you live in the Lansdale Pennsylvania area, the chances are quite good that your heater has gotten a significant workout over this long and sometimes brutal winter season. But it’s never too early to consider maintenance or repairs on your Heater Lansdale PA in order for it to be prepared for colder temperatures, even though they may be months away.

When the weather was cold, it may have been very difficult to find a heater service to come out and handle repairs to a system that wasn’t functioning properly. However, now that heater repair is not so imperative, you’re likely going to find that companies can handle this type of repair are going to be faster to respond and they would when they were receiving large amounts of service calls for heaters.

It’s likely that most people are very happy that the cold weather is over. But regardless of your feelings that shouldn’t inhibit you from making sure your heater is in proper working order. Regardless of how long it will be until the cold weather returns, it will return and you need to be prepared.

Another benefit to addressing any heater issues you may have now rather than later is that in some cases, the repairs on heaters, especially older heaters, can take some time to complete. In most cases, it may be locating and ordering the right part to get your heater working at peak efficiency.

With older heater units, parts may be hard to find or if they can be found, it may take time for the parts to be delivered to a heating repair service. Since it’s not likely you’re going to need your heater for the next couple of months, you can afford to wait. If you decide to address your heater when cold weather is just a few weeks away and your in a situation where the part isn’t readily available, you could face cold weather without a heater.

It may be the last thing you want to think about but you should consider your heater system now rather than later. You don’t want to be left out in the cold.

Four British energy suppliers face investigation into claims of misselling

Sunday, September 5, 2010

The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem), the regulator of the electricity and gas markets in Great Britain, has launched an investigation into four of the largest British energy suppliers over suspicions that they not be complying with face-to-face and telephone sales regulations. The four organisations facing scrutiny could be fined up to 10% of their annual turnover if it is found that they are breaking sales regulations. Scottish Power, npower, Scottish and Southern Energy and EDF Energy are all to face questioning by the organisation.

Ofgem has urged customers of the four companies to alert the energy regulator, “if they are concerned about the sales approach any domestic suppliers have taken when selling energy contracts, either face-to-face or by telephone,” according to a statement. “As part of the investigation process Ofgem will examine any evidence of non-compliance and consider whether there are grounds for exercising enforcement powers.”

New regulations on sales tactics by energy suppliers were recently introduced, and, Ofgem has said, energy suppliers must be “proactive in preventing misselling to customers both face to face and over the phone. Also, if suppliers are selling contracts face to face they must provide customers with an estimate before any sales are concluded. In most circumstances customers should also receive a comparison of the supplier’s offer with their current deal.” Only one in five consumers consider energy suppliers to be trustworthy, and 61% of people feel intimidated by doorstep sales people from energy companies. According to the organisation Consumer Focus, “complaints have declined since new rules came into effect this year, but suppliers still seem to be flouting the rules. Some customers are still being given misleading quotes and information, which leave them worse off when they switch provider.”

The newspaper The Guardian has reported that “householders are reporting that sales agents working for the energy suppliers are giving them misleading information and quotes which leave them worse off when they switch supplier.” Consumer Focus has said that if energy companies continue to break the rules, they could be banned from doorstep-selling completely. The report goes on to say that “new figures from helpline Consumer Direct show that while the number of complaints has fallen since last year, about 200 cases of mis-selling are being reported each month.” However, Scottish Power said it insists on “the highest standards possible for all of our sales agents”, and npower told the Financial Times that it was “confident that the processes we have in place mean that we comply with our regulatory obligations”. EDF added that it was “fully compliant with all obligations regarding sales of energy contracts”.

According to the regulator, the obligations are serious and must be followed by energy supplies, or they will face “tougher sanctions than those available under more general consumer protection law.” Ofgem has published a guide advising consumers what they should do should an energy salesperson contact them in person of by telephone. Improper sales tactics are still common in the industry—in 2008 an Ofgem investigation found that 48% of gas customers and 42% of electricity customers were worse off after switching supplier on the doorstep. Npower was fined £1.8 million in 2008 by the organisation, and Ofgem insists that they are “committed to taking action” over improper sales activities by energy companies. “Suppliers have existing obligations to detect and prevent misselling and new licence conditions were brought in following our probe to further increase protection for customers,” said Andrew Wright, a Senior Partner of the regulator. “We expect all suppliers to comply with these tougher obligations but if our investigations find otherwise we will take strong action.”

Head of energy at Consumer Focus, Audrey Gallacher, called the investigation “a welcome step … to address years of customers getting a bad deal on energy prices on their doorstep. While many doorstep sales people will do a good job, the pay and rewards system continues to encourage mis-selling, despite years of regulation and voluntary initiatives. If better advice for customers and enforcement of the tougher rules doesn’t end the flagrant abuse of this form of selling the big question will be whether it should be completely banned.” Christine McGourty, director of Energy UK, which represents the leading gas and electricity companies, said that “the companies involved will collaborate with the Ofgem investigation and are awaiting further details from the regulator. Any sales agent in breach of the code will be struck off the approved energy sales register.” Which? chief executive, Peter Vicary-Smith, has said he considers the situation “shocking”, saying that the investigation “will do nothing to improve consumer trust in energy suppliers. We’re pleased that Ofgem has promised tough measures against any firms guilty of mis-selling. We hope it uses this opportunity to tighten rules around telesales so they are in line with those for face to face sales.”

SNP Westminster Energy spokesperson Mike Weir MP, however, said that the investigation “does nothing to tackle the real problem of fuel prices which leave many Scots facing great difficulty in heating their homes … Rather than tinkering around the edges Ofgem should be looking at how to reduce prices for vulnerable households.” Gareth Kloet, Head of Utilities at Confused.com, one of the UK’s biggest and most popular price comparison services, also welcomed the inquiry. “It is unacceptable for energy companies to mislead customers like this,” he said, adding that Confused.com has previously “urged energy providers to either stop the practice of doorstep selling or make it very clear to households that better deals are available online. There is no reason why door-to-door salesmen can’t show people online deals and even help households switch to them.”

“Our research reveals customers could end up paying £167 more than they need to as door-to-door salesmen are unable to offer the discounts that are applied online. The changes that have been made to date are a welcome addition to safeguard customers; however this review has been much needed for a long time. Hopefully it will mark the end of customers being overcharged and missold,” Kloet continued. “Our message to energy consumers remains the same: they should shop around online to make sure they’re getting the best deal possible and turn these salesmen away.”

70,000 General Motors employees go on strike

Monday, September 24, 2007

73,000 United Auto Workers (UAW) union members launched a nationwide strike today against General Motors (GM), the largest auto manufacturer in the United States.

UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said GM would need to meet pay, health care, and job security issues. Gettelfinge said, “This is nothing we wanted…No one benefits in a strike. But there comes a point where someone can push you off a cliff. That’s what happened here.”

The strike was officially launched at 11 a.m. EDT (UTC-4) today.

Negotiations were reportedly going to occur again this afternoon, but there have been no reports of any negotiating going on from either side.

80 facilities in 30 different states closed today because of the strike.

CNN reports that GM facilities in Mexico and Canada may close soon, too.

The vice president of global vehicle forecasts for CSM Worldwide, Michael Robinet, said today that dealerships in the US likely won’t feel the effects of the strike for several weeks.

A statement from GM today said, “We are disappointed in the UAW’s decision to call a national strike. The bargaining involved complex, difficult issues that affect the job security of our U.S. work force, and the long-term viability of the company. We are fully committed to working with the UAW to develop solutions together to address the competitive challenges facing General Motors. We will continue focusing our efforts on reaching an agreement as soon as possible.”

If the strike continues, UAW strike funds will supply each striker with US$200 a month and medical coverage.

Interview: Danny O’Brien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation

January’s second Interview of the Month was with Danny O’Brien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) on 23 January in IRC.

The EFF is coming off a series of high-profile successes in their campaigns to educate the public, press, and policy makers regarding online rights in a digital world, and defending those rights in the legislature and the courtroom. Their settlement with Sony/BMG, the amazingly confused MGM v Grokster decision by the Supreme Court of the United States, and the disturbing cases surrounding Diebold have earned the advocacy organization considerable attention.

When asked if the EFF would be interested in a live interview in IRC by Wikinews, the answer was a nearly immediate yes, but just a little after Ricardo Lobo. With two such interesting interview candidates agreeing so quickly, it was hard to say no to either so schedules were juggled to have both. By chance, the timing worked out to have the EFF interview the day before the U.S. Senate schedule hearings concerning the Broadcast flag rule of the FCC, a form of digital rights management which the recording and movie industries have been lobbying hard for – and the EFF has been lobbying hard to prevent.

Digital Agencies From An Option To A Necessity!}

Its no longer important to cater to a consumers need. As a brand you have a lot of responsibilities towards your consumer. The fight is on between you as a brand and your competitors to secure the best digital agency there is in the country!

Mumbai being the hub of all things glamorous it is a given that you would be looking for a digital agency in Mumbai. If you go online to look for one the list will be endless.

So how, in a world that is fighting for internet space and attention do you locate a good digital agency that will help you make a space in the mind of your consumer.

To know what digital agency you require you first need to understand the concept of digital marketing and whether your brand even needs it.

Digital marketing encompasses everything within the internet domain. This includes Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Website design and development, your brands presence on every single social medium that your end consumer and key influencers use. These include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Blogspot etc.

How does a digital agency help with all of this? A digital agency has tons of talent at its disposal. From graphic designers, videography, product and event photography, social media strategists, content developers, research teams and copy- they handle your brand as if it were one of their own right from conceptualizing to executing and tracking progress.

The ultimate goal for you as a client and your digital agency is the return on investments (ROI).

How do you identify what agency is the right one for you?

There are a few key pointers to keep in mind!

Their website.

If they are a digital agency their website must be flawless. Beautiful design skills, copy that projects the personality of the advertising agency and the load time should be close to zero. This is the mark of a digital agency that knows what it is doing.

The services they offer.

The digital space is integrated. Your communication cannot be scattered. It is easier to work with an agency that can create the website design which is an insight to the consumer as to what your brand is all about. And then carry forward the website design and communication route through social media.

Your personal relationship.

An agency could offer their services for free however if you do not match on a creative and interpersonal level it could harm your brand directly.

The monetary value.

Once all the creative parameters have been met, it is important to check whether the services of the agency fit within your creative budget. Ideally as the world progresses it is important to invest money in digital communications. A brand that communicates and caters to the primary need in the form of a product, as well as on an empathetic level through its communication skills is the one that consumers of today opt for.

Digital marketing is the future and digital agencies are the route to get there. With a burst of start-ups alongside the big agencies even smaller producers can be a part of the digital space. If your agency has skill there is no saying what boundaries you can break through the powerful mediums of the World Wide Web.

Australian troops land in East Timor

Friday, May 26, 2006

Wikinews Australia has in-depth coverage of this issue: 2006 East Timor crisis

After approximately 150 Australian troops from 4 Royal Australian Regiment (Commandos) secured Comoro airport in Dili yesterday, the total number of Australian troops in East Timor has risen to 600, with a further 1200 in transit or directly supporting Operation Astute. Malaysia, New Zealand and Portugal have also begun their deployments. Malaysia has now sent 25 military officers ahead of its 500 strong commitment of military and police personnel; New Zealand has committed two C-130s, and an infantry company is on standby pending negotiations over rules of engagement; Portugal’s 120-strong commitment has commenced preparations, but is not expected to arrive for a matter of weeks. The Australian contingent involved in Operation Astute has been placed under the command of Brigadier Michael Slater, who arrived in Dili this morning.

Currently, the Australian Department of Defence states Operation Astute’s tasks are:

  1. to facilitate the evacuation of Australian and other foreign nationals as is appropriate and necessary;
  2. to stabilise the situation and facilitate the concentration of the various conflicting groups into safe and secure locations;
  3. to audit and account for the location of weapons that belong to each group; and
  4. to create a secure environment for the conduct of a successful dialogue to resolve the current crisis.

Australian forces are already actively operating in Dili; Infantry patrols are operating in the area, supported by the four Blackhawks from the 5th Aviation Regiment that have arrived so far. Blackhawks have also been operating missions above the hills around Dili to seek out rebel positions and communicate a strong presence to the rebel soldiers. Two Armoured Personnel Carriers and an infantry platoon have set up position in and around the UN Headquarters and Dili police station, which came under attack earlier today, and was the location of considerable violence yesterday when East Timorese army soldiers killed 12 East Timorese police and wounded numerous others, including 2 UN personnel. “At the moment things are relatively stable, the troops are arriving and we are establishing good control throughout the Dili area” BRIG Slater said of the situation.

Yesterday 80 Australian nationals were evacuated by RAAF C-130, a number that is rising as flights in and out of East Timor have been unhampered since the securing of Comoro airport. Approximately 800 Australian nationals were in East Timor at the beginning of conflict.

Events involving East Timor’s government are complicating the situation. Reports state that Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri is reluctant to allow foreign troops to independently operate in the country and arguing with President Xanana Gusmao over who should control the small nation’s still loyal military of 800 troops. After President Gusmao declared he had taken over command of the military and ordered all East Timorese military personnel to barracks, Alkatiri stated that he believed the President does not have a constitutional right to take control of the military, as that depends on a ‘situation of emergency’ being declared, which is itself dependent on the parliament.

According to Mark Thompson, a military budgeting specialist from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, Operation Astute would cost a similar amount to Australia’s earlier peacekeeping operation in East Timor – approximately $200 million.

Twelve dead at Brazilian school after man opens fire

Thursday, April 7, 2011

Twelve people died during a shooting at a school in the neighborhood Realengo in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. The gunman is numbered among the dead, after taking his own life. Ten people are reported injured during the attack by a man identified as Wellington Menezes Olivera, a 23 year old ex-student from the school.

The attack took place just after 8am local time (11:00 GMT) this morning. Television station TV Globo reported that Olivera entered the Tasso da Silveira municipal school, telling officials that he was attending to make a speech to students. He was reportedly carrying at least two revolvers and a significant amount of ammunition.

Witnesses state that he began to fire at pupils’ heads, killing ten girls and one boy. Rio state health secretary, Sergio Cortes, stated that those injured in the attack were taken to local hospitals. At least four were said to be in a “grave” condition.

Rio’s Police chief, Martha Rocha, said in a press conference that the gunman had no previous criminal history. She stated that he was carrying 2 firearms, although she did not specify what type. During the attack he fired off at least 30 rounds of ammunition. There were approximately 400 people in the school when the attack began, and shortly after the shooting started, two small boys outside the school, one with a gunshot wound, ran almost two city blocks until they found police and alerted them to the incident.

“Life at the four-storey school pastel green and yellow school was turned into a hellish nightmare. This day would have been so much worse if it weren’t for the hero policeman.”

The two officers who were made aware ran to the school, and quickly managed to locate the gunman, leading to a shooting match. One officer, Marcio Alves, stated that “He saw me and aimed a gun at me, I shot him in the legs, he fell down the stairs and then shot himself in the head.”

Police report that Olivera was carrying a “long and rambling” letter, confirming his intentions to commit suicide.

In a statement by the Mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, he made it clear that life at the school had become a “hellish nightmare.” Authorities closed the school temporarily while they investigate, but Mayor Paes confirmed that the school will reopen.

The fate of all the children in the school is not yet known. One eleven year old pupil from the school, Wanderson Barbosa, was interviewed by Associated Press as he sat on the steps of his house. He was in his classroom when the attack started, and he and others in his class thought that other students were fighting, until his teacher told them to get to the floor, because it was gunfire.

“I’m so worried,” Barbosa said to reporters, “We don’t have news of everyone yet.”

Meanwhile, Rio’s Governor, Sergio Cabral, called the attacker a “psychopath”, whilst indicating that he does not believe anyone else was involved in the attack, but that investigations into the incident will continue.
