Steve Kubby, co-author of California Proposition 215, grows dangerously ill in US custody

Steve Kubby who was facing extradition from Canada, returned to California, was arrested, and is now in custody in Placer County, California Jail, pending a hearing today. He is a medical cannabis patient who relies on the drug to regulate the symptoms of malignant phenochromocytoma, a cancer of the adrenal gland which can cause the level of adrenaline in his system to fluctuate out of control. If left unregulated, this can result in sudden, fatal heart attack, stroke, pneumonia, and a variety of other conditions.

Kubby was arrested on arrival at San Francisco International Airport Thursday night on behalf of the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, having exhausted his extradition appeals in Canada. He was taken to San Mateo County Jail, pending transport to Placer County Jail. While at San Mateo County Jail, he was reportedly denied access to medication and sufficient bedding. On arrival at Placer County Jail, his blood pressure was dangerously high, and so was given Marinol, a THC synthetic.

Communication with Kubby is highly restricted. According to his wife, Michele, Kubby has been placed in solitary confinement, denied access several times to sufficient bedding to keep him warm, and denied access to the cannabis which, according to several experts on his universally fatal condition, has been solely responsible for keeping him alive for decades. The Marinol he is being given partially mitigates his symptoms, but does not completely control them. He now grows dangerously ill.

In particular, he relates how he was ordered by prison medical staff to take beta-blockers for his blood-pressure. Due to the episodic nature of the adrenaline spikes causing the high blood-pressure, according to all of his doctors, the beta-blockers would likely kill him once the spikes dropped. In an interview by phone with journalist Pat McCartney over the weekend, Kubby reported that, for refusing the beta-blockers, he was coerced into signing a waiver absolving the prison of liability, and has since been refused all care, including even Tylenol for pain management.

Activists concerned with medical marijuana, human rights and prison reform will hold a rally at noon today in front of the Placer County Superior Courthouse, where Steve Kubby is scheduled to be arraigned on violation of probation charges.

Kubby was a co-author of California’s Compassionate Use Act of 1996, also known as Proposition 215. He fled to Canada in 2001 to escape the possibility of incarceration for an extended period without access to cannabis, a possibility which, in both his and expert medical opinion, would certainly prove fatal.

George Galloway exposes News of the World ‘fake sheikh’

George Galloway, an MP in the British Parliament for Bethnal Green and Bow, has won a court battle allowing him to publish photos of the infamous News of the World “fake sheikh”, undercover reporter Mazher Mahmood famed for setting up high-profile figures. George Galloway had a meeting with the reporter after being approached via a contact. Over dinner at the Dorchester hotel, Mazher is said by George Galloway to have asked leading questions over political party funding and to have solicited anti-semitic remarks. George Galloway became ever more suspicious, especially after seeing that the reporter’s driver had a ‘mouthful of gold teeth’, as described in journalist Andrew Marr’s book.

After threatening to release a photograph of the reporter, who has in the past tried hard to keep his identity secret, the News of the World sought an injunction against publication, claiming that they feared for his safety, and lost.

In a post on the Guardian newspaper’s Comment is Free weblog, George Galloway said that Mazher “has crossed the cusp of reputable journalism into seeking to procure criminal acts”.

How To Maintain Septic Tanks In Sorrento Fl

byAlma Abell

A septic tank is an important component of sewage treatment system that serves people who reside in the up country where they are locked out from the local government sewage plants and lines. A septic system ensures the transportation of waste to places where it can later be safely treated and disposed. It is basically a concrete container that is usually buried underground and is used for waste water management.

What are the signs of a defective septic tank?

1. Presence of bad smell in your compound: The presence of choking and a strange smell around your home may be a clear indication that there is something wrong with your waste water drainage.2. Stagnation of water on the ground above the tank: This shows that there is something hindering water from flowing freely. You should therefore ask for expert help to assess whether repair will solve the problem.3. Availability of overgrown plants particularly trees: Some plant roots are strong enough to break through the concrete searching for nutrients. If the plants around where tank is located are growing faster than normal, this might be an indication that they have penetrated through the concrete, and you should therefore look for an expert to assist you in rectifying the mess.

Proper maintenance of septic tanks Some of the important tips that you should follow include:

1. Enhancing proper check up and inspection of your tank regularly2. Make sure that you clean your tank often3. Regular pumping out of the sludge4. Rain water should be diverted away from the tank5. All leaking faucets and toilets should be repaired6. Keep off plants with aggressive roots from the area7. Feminine hygiene products should never be flushed down the toilet.

Who should carry out the maintenance of your tank?

years. They provide recycling and septic services to Apopka, FL and other near places. For all your waste disposal needs, discover this info here.

Google starts prefetching top search results for Mozilla and Firefox browsers

Friday, April 1, 2005 Google engineer Reza Behforooz announced in a Google blog entry on March 30 that search engine Google has enabled “link prefetching” for some of their search results. The link prefetching has not been standardized, but it can enable faster page loading of Google search results in Mozilla and Firefox browsers that have the feature enabled.

When Google determines a user has a high likelihood of clicking on a search result, Google inserts a tag into the results they send out in response to a search. Some browsers can then preload that page, so in the event the user does select the page, it loads very quickly.

For example, a Google search for “wikipedia” today by Pingswept yielded an HTML page with this code included:

<link rel="prefetch" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page">

While not a formal benchmark, in casual testing by Pingswept, Firefox 1.0.2 loaded the Wikipedia main page in about half the time when the page had been link prefetched, as opposed to when it had not been. The load times were approximately 1.5 seconds and 3 seconds respectively. Internet Explorer 6.0 loaded the same page in slightly less than 3 seconds.

Users who want to disable prefetching in Firefox can do the following:

  1. Type “about:config” in the address bar.
  2. Scroll down to the setting “network.prefetch-next”.
  3. Right-click on the value and click “Toggle”.

UN: one billion hungry people in the world

Saturday, November 14, 2009

The United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP) said today that for the first time in history, the number of hungry people worldwide will exceed one billion.

The huge number of people facing food insecurity has prompted the UN organization to appeal to individuals for the first time. The WFP launched the Billion for a Billion online campaign today, in an effort to get one billion people living in the developed world to give one euro (US$1.50) a week to the campaign.

WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran commented that donor governments have supported WFP efforts in the past, but they cannot be expected to do so anymore because of the financial pressure they are facing in the worldwide economic downturn. She said that the WFP was projected to make only $3.7 billion in donations, about half of the $6.7 billion it had targeted for 2009.

“We now have hunger galloping ahead — over a billion people now for the first time in history — and because of the financial pressure on governments we think it’s really important now to call on the citizens of the world to help solve this problem directly,” Sheeran told the Reuters news agency in an interview.

Sheeran noted the rise in the number of hungry people was partially due to increasing prices in the developing world following a food crisis in 2007–08. The WFP’s resources are stretched due to many crises worldwide, such as violence in Pakistan, drought in eastern Africa, and flooding in Southeast Asia. The organisation can thus provide only limited assistance to those in need.

“The problem at the moment is that WFP probably has ten or twelve acute emergencies on its hands, each one complex, each one with its own compelling situation […] We are cutting rations,” Sheeran told Reuters.

Sheeran made the online campaign announcement ahead of the World Food Summit beginning on Monday in Rome, Italy, where world leaders will meet to find solutions to the growing number of hungry people in the world. The summit is to be hosted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

The Impact Of Outsourcing On Indian Real Estate

The impact of outsourcing on Indian real estate by SganalyticThe impact of outsourcing on Indian real estateCommercial real estate in India recovering from the downtrendCommercial real estate in India was hit the worst during the economic meltdown in the second half of 2008. Commercial rentals in top metros plummeted by more than 30-40%. Lately, following the residential segment, the commercial segment has started showings signs of recovery. With the economy back on a high growth trajectory and the ambitious hiring plans of outsourcing services and KPO companies, the demand for commercial space is poised to rise. Market research depicts an additional demand for ~243 mn sft of commercial space across India to be generated during 2010-2013. While Bangalore leads with the highest demand for commercial space, NCR (National Capital Region) is catching up owed to the emergence of outsourcing services, data management, equity research, analytical research, market research, business analysis and research companies in Gurgaon and Noida over the past few years.Indias outsourcing services/off-shoring industry – an introductionThe genesis of outsourcing services lies in the fact that labour cant be freely traded in the global market, while commodities and capital can. The trend towards outsourcing services to India and other low cost destinations began in the early 1990s. It was primarily driven by the cross border arbitrage that these destinations offer. Many international outsourcing companies reaped the benefits of this arbitrage by sourcing their production or service operations (initially low-end data management to more complex KPO services like equity research, analytical research and investment research etc) to lower-wage emerging-market country like India. In 2009, Indias share of the global offshoring market valued at USD 94 billion was nearly 51%; thus, providing immense potential for expansion, as the global offshoring market is still a small fraction of the global outsourcing services industry valued at USD235 billion as on 2009. This provides a huge scope to the Indian IT, outsourcing services and KPO companies to create new service offerings and widen their geographical reach by entering newer regions. In the next few years, we expect the labor cost arbitrage offered by India to generate stronger interest for the outsourcing services / KPO companies to enter into the country. The Indian KPO services industry is expected to reach ~USD6 bn in revenues in 2010-11 and ~USD10 bn by 2013-14. These KPO companies provide a wide range of solutions including data management, research analytics, equity research, market research, investment research, business analysis and business research etc. It is expected that in the coming years both the volume and complexity of the work (especially equity research, market research, analytical research etc) being outsourced to Indian KPO companies, will increase.Corporate real estate driven by outsourcing services/off-shoring industryCommercial real estate is further subdivided into Corporate (Office), Retail and Hotels. Corporate real estate still remains in its infancy in India with the first A grade classified office only dating back to the mid 1990s. Currently, all major Indian metropolitan cities boast a substantial amount of A grade office space. The initial waves, in the early 1990s, of Western companies outsourcing services to India were accompanied by an acceptance of any kind of facility available, irrespective of the cost. However, these companies were not accessing the quality of corporate real estate and services available elsewhere in the world. Only recently the local property developers started to fully comprehend the workspace specifications required for IT-enabled outsourcing services or KPO services. This local development, in addition to greater exposure from international service providers, is beginning to enable the delivery of quality real estate solutions at economical costs suitable for BPO/KPO companies.Business outsourcing overall impact assessmentIn 2006, the total supply of commercial office space (grade-A, non-captive) in National Capital Region (NCR), Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune and Chennai together was recorded in the range of 4045 million sq. ft (according to E&Y estimates). The absorption was primarily driven by the IT/ITES industry, which accounted for almost 7075% of total absorption. Thereafter, a whopping 47 million sqft of absorption was seen in 2007 of which ~70% was absorbed by the IT/ITES sector. Office rentals have been rising in harmony with demand at 30-40% per annum from 2005 to 2008. However, during the recession a geographic de-concentration of the real estate activity was observed 1) from large metros like Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and NCR to tier II and tier III cities (such as Chandigarh, Chennai, Jaipur, Pune, Hyderabad, Kochi and Visakhapatnam) and 2) from Central Business Districts (CBDs) to Secondary and Peripheral Business Districts (SBDs and PBDs). This transition has been driven primarily by the shift of IT-BPO & KPO companies to these less expensive destinations. A substantial downsizing of operations became the order of the day for the outsourcing companies hit by the recession. Consequently, the absorption of commercial space fell drastically to 37mn sft in 2008 and further to 26mn sft in 2009. Most micro-markets across the country witnessed a 15-25% decline in rentals in 2009, as compared to 2008. However, the story took a new turn in 2010, wherein the decline has slowed to almost zero and new projects have been announced. The future looks vivid with promising growth forecastsThe Global IT outsourcing services industry is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 5.6% to USD 292 bn in 2013 as companies riding out of recession harness the need for information technology to retain competitive advantage. With the Indian economy estimated to grow above 7% in the near future, robust demand for office space is expected from companies, particularly in the IT/ITeS, KPO outsourcing, and analytical research services. Outsourcing services or BPO & KPO companies has emerged as key drivers of commercial real estate in Indias metro cities and is expected to generate a demand for 100-125mn sft of office space over the next five years. Market research pegs returns from realty in India at an average of 15% annually with a tremendous upsurge in commercial real estate on account of the Indian BPO/KPO services boom. Lease rentals have been picking up steadily and there is a huge demand for quality infrastructure. Market research forecasts office rents to appreciate by mid-2011 and that more outright purchases would be made by MNCs and private equity firms. Additionally, IT/ITES and outsourcing companies will continue to account for 60-70% of office demand, further emphasizing the impact of the outsourcing services/KPO services industry on the commercial real estate market in India.KPO Companies SG Analytics is leading KPO outsourcing, market research companies and investment research.Description:KPO Companies specialist SG Analytics is a leading KPO outsourcing which provides a wide range of services to market research Companies, market primary research Companies, equity research firms and kpo companies. Keywords:equity research outsourcing, kpo outsourcing, research analytics, outsourcing market research, kpo services, market primary research, equity research firms, kpo companies, equity research, market research companies, investment research, research and analytics, research companiesArticle Source: eArticlesOnline.com

Vacation In The Lap Of Luxury With A Penthouse Suite

When choosing what kind of hotel room you want to book for the duration of your stay in Nairobi, there are numerous questions to answer. Would you rather book a room located in the heart of the city or on the outskirts? Do you want to stay at a large hotel, a resort, or would you rather enjoy the more unique and intimate setting of a boutique hotel? Would you prefer a single room or a suite? If you are interested in having the most sumptuous vacation experience, you may want to consider looking at the penthouse suite in your hotel before you answer that last question. Don’t finalize the details of your visit until you have the opportunity to check out the availability of penthouses in Nairobi for the best views, spacious rooms, and luxurious appointments.

Penthouse apartments were originally designed to offer a more house-like scheme than an apartment by being built as a separate entity on the roof of the existing apartment building. This offered the potential to create an outdoor space that was larger and more appealing than a typical balcony, as well. Whether or not penthouses are a separate structure from the original building these days, they are still always located on the top floor of the building. Being situated far above the noise of the street has the benefit of giving a sense of removal from the urban location, but without losing the advantages of being in a large city. Because a penthouse occupies all or most of the top floor, it is generally several times larger than the apartments and rooms on the floors below, and usually includes more luxury features. Hotels have copied the design of penthouse apartments in order to offer their guests the same benefits of rooftop living.

Choosing to stay in the penthouse suite of your hotel will give you the best views of the stunning Nairobi cityscape. You will enjoy the top-of-the-world feeling you get from your vantage point high above the hustle and bustle. Penthouse suites are more spacious than the typical hotel suite, too, so you won’t get that claustrophobic feeling a regular hotel room frequently tends to give a couple of days into the stay. Because penthouses in Nairobi are, by nature, more luxurious, the time spent relaxing at your hotel will be just as valuable to you as the time spent out on safari, sightseeing, shopping, and experiencing the unique culture of Kenya’s capital city.

Penthouses in Nairobi offer unsurpassed choices for views of the city, spacious rooms, and luxury. Check out the options for penthouses in Nairobi online at Wasinihotel.com to pamper yourself on your vacation with the best in creature comforts.
